LAB WORK - FDISK AND WIN98 CD AS AN ADMIN TOOL

  1. Boot from Win98 CD-ROM with Support

  4. FDISK /mbr (clears master boot record off everything - useful if machine had previous install of LINUX - LINUX puts things on the Master Boot Record that FDISK won't remove without the /mbr switch
  5. Walk through FDISK - read and understand all messages on all screens
  6. Preview current partitions using option 4 in FDISK
  7. Delete existing partitions (if there is an extended partition, delete it first)
  8. Must get out of FDISK before you CTRL/ALT/DEL so that it is saved.
  9. Use FDISK to review partitions to see that they are all gone
  10. Create a 100MB Primary Partition
  11. Set the Primary Partition to active - must be active to load an OS on it. Can only have 1 active partition

  16. CTRL / ALT / DEL
  17. Boot from CD with support
  18. FDISK - option 4 - Are your drives there?
  19. Now we need to format ... Type FORMAT at the a:\ - bad command ... not an internal command and not in the directory we are in. Where is it? Go find it...
  20. Change to the CD drive ... yours may be e:\ or d:\ or something else
